Vintage handmade Wagons Des Lits hat from the French Theater Folies world, the hat is made in Paris and has a stamp of the hatter and name of the performer on the inside.
Wagons des Lits was also known from the movie the murder on the Orient Express, put on the hat and dream about these luxurious train journeys that were only reserved for the rich.
Very nice to decorate with or to wear, in excellent condition.

Fun Fact: In the year 1867, the Belgian Georges Nagelmaekers, a descendant of a banking family, paid a visit to the United States. He was greatly impressed by the luxury trains that connected the east and west coasts here. Two years before Nagelmaekers arrived, George M. Pullman had introduced sleeping cars, ideal for these long-distance trains, which ran for several days. When Georges Nagelmaekers returned home, the idea for a European network of luxurious long-distance trains was born.

A few years after his visit to the United States, Nagelmaekers founded the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits on December 4, 1876. The company got off the ground with a starting capital of 4 million Belgian francs and the (financial) help of, among others, the Belgian King Leopold II of Belgium, who also had interests in the Nagelmaekers family.

ICompagnie des Wagons-Lits was established in 1872 and has long set the standard for overnight rail transport in Europe, especially in the luxury transport sector. For many years, the company ran its own luxury trains, the most famous being the Orient Express and the Blue Train.
In 1931, at the height of its success, the company ran a record number of 2,268 rail cars. Based in Europe, Compagnie des Wagons-Lits quickly expanded into various other countries, primarily in Africa and Asia. For a long time, it enjoyed a monopoly of the rail catering market in Italy and Austria.
