This substantial circa 1834 English sterling silver basting/stuffing spoon was made in London by silversmith Jonathan Hayne. The spoon has a long handle with a traditional fiddle and thread design and features hand engraved decoration depicting the Paschal Lamb, the chief emblem of the The Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey) which was formed in 1661, making it the oldest English line regiment in the British Army. It existed until 1959 when it was merged into The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment.

The spoon is in very good condition with well struck marks which include the lion passant, the leopard's head indicating the London Assay Office, the embossed King William IV King's head Duty Mark facing right and a lowercase "t" in a cartouche designating production in 1834. The piece also bears script initials "JH", the maker's mark for Jonathan Hayne. As an antique, the spoon has some light scratches and other marks related to age which are mentioned for accuracy.

The spoon measures 12" in length while the bowl is 3.75" by 2.25" at its widest point. The piece weighs in at 185 grams.

This sterling silver spoon displays beautifully and would be a wonderful addition to a collection of antique English silver, or to a collection of militaria related to the British Army. A lovely and useful piece.
