This is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL Genuine Salt Water Mikimoto Akoya Pearl & Sterling "Grapes" Brooch or Pin, circa 1935 !

This gorgeous, large & timeless Akoya Pearl "Grapes" Brooch, is from 1935. I immediately "knew" it was a vintage Mikimoto Pin...and turns out it is ! Thanks to a sweet woman in Australia who has been studying Mikimoto pieces & design for 40+ years, I now know that this is a pre-WW2 Mikimoto Grapes Pin that the Mikimoto signature "M in Clam Shell" hallmark obscured from after the war. The original Mikimoto "M" in clamshell signature & "S" cartouche for Sterling, were covered up with brushed-on molten silver, then re-stamped simply "Silver" or "Sterling". You can tell that the "STERLING" stamp on this piece was made AFTER-manufacture, because the area where the word "Sterling" is now stamped, is MUCH smoother, brighter & with notably less "wear marks" like scratches and sports of tarnish. Also, you can see literal "brush marks" in the silver of this area, where a wire brush was used to brush on the new molten silver... The extra smooth & bright silver is very visible in the photo I've taken of the of the "STERLING" stamp. You can examine this even better when you receive it. (This was all done due to hostilities between Japan and other nations of the world at the time. Thanks for the generous info & dating of 1935, Dell ! :) ...)

A truly enchanting Early Mikimoto Treasure, it has an exquisite design of 20 Genuine Salt Water Akoya Pearls, and 4 lovely Sterling Grape Leaves accented with diamond cut surfaces so they sparkle as you move. And you can see just how dazzling the White Pearl Clusters compliment against the Sterling Leaves ! Simply sumptuous !!

It measures a nice BIG 1.65" at its widest point, and its glowing Akoya Pearls are from 5mm to 4mm in size. Stamped "STERLING", it is in Excellent Condition with fabulously lustrous nacre on the Pearls---the true Mikimoto "signature" of the finest pearls in the world !
