This vintage Simons 18k gold plated sterling silver thimble is a reproduction of First Lady Lucretia Garfield's thimble at the Smithsonian's First Ladies Hall. Lucretia was wife to the 20th president James A. Garfield who was assassinated in 1881, 6 months into his presidency.
The thimble features framed panels that alternate between plain, those with a bold X design, and those with a design of small diamond shapes. Circa 1980. This thimble came with a simple little folded note inside that mentions who inspired Simons to recreate the piece.
There is no size marking.
Measurement: approx 15/16” high, almost 5/8” wide across the inside of the finger hole.
Markings: stamped inside the apex with the Simons logo and Sterling Silver.
Very good to near excellent condition. It appears unused. Some dark tarnish in the recesses (I didn’t want to polish too fervently for fear of rubbing away the gold plating), some rubbing to the plating.
